Vaccinations
required with the entry of the country
Vaccinations
required with
the entry of the
country
From an
administrative
point of view: a
certificate of
anti-malaria
vaccination is
required with
the entry of the
country of all
the travelers,
except of those
coming from
zones not
infected and
remaining less
than 15 days.
Vaccinations
recommended from
a point of view
medical and
based on
epidemiologic
criteria:
Systematically:
- Yellow fever
(for the
children:
starting from
the 6 months
age).
- Hepatitis A *
(for the
children:
starting from
the age of 1
year). * for the
people born
before 1945,
having passed
their childhood
in a developing
country or
having
antecedents of
ictère, a
preliminary
search for serum
antibodies (Ig
G) can make it
possible to
avoid an useless
vaccination.
- Diphtheria,
tetanus,
poliomyelitis:
to update.
According to the
duration and
methods of the
stay:
- Typhoid: if
the stay must
proceed under
precarious
conditions of
hygiene (for the
children:
starting from
the 2 years
age).
- Rage on a
purely
preventive
basis: for stays
prolonged in
situation of
insulation (for
the children: as
soon as they are
in age to go).
- Hepatitis b:
for frequent or
prolonged stays.
- Meningitis
with
meningocoques:
For prolonged
stays or in the
event of close
contact with the
local population
in period and
zone of epidemic
(for the
children:
starting from
the 2 years
age). NB: For
the children,
all the
vaccinations
included in the
French vaccine
calendar will
have to also be
up to date. In
the case of a
long stay,
vaccines BCG and
Hepatitis B are
recommended as
of the first
month and the
vaccine
measles-mump-rubella
as of the 9
months age. Note: It
is recommended
to carry out all
vaccinations
necessary before
leaving. To find
the list of the
centers of
vaccinations on:

Food
Water
It is misadvised
drinking the
water of the
tap.
Indeed, it is
necessary to
filter it before
use (sheets of
water chemically
and
bacteriologic
excellent, but
decayed drains
with possible
infiltrations).
The pressure
filters are
simplest to use
for the domestic
distributions of
water profiting
from pressure
(or to be
equipped with a
booster). To
provide itself
with cartridges
of replacement.
If stay in rural
zone with supply
water without
pressure to
provide itself
with filters.
Certain models
exist on the
spot.
Principal
medical risks in
the country
Paludism
Infected zones:
the areas of the
north of
Dakhlet-Nouadhibou
and
Tiris-Zemmour
are free from
paludism. In
Adrar and
Inchiri, there
are theoretical
risks
(plasmodium
vivax) very
limited in the
weeks following
possible the
first rains from
August to at the
end of October,
as well as
November at
December. The
infected zone of
Mauritania
corresponds
primarily to the
zone bordering
southern
Senegal river,
of Sélibaby with
Keur-Massene.
Mosquito nets
and products of
impregnation are
easily found.
Products
containing
permethrine also
available.
Level of
resistance
according to
French
classification:
group 2 (see
medical
recommendations
BEH N° 24 of
June 12, 2007)
Rage
The animal rage
exists in this
country.
It is endemic.
The animals
which are most
often touched
are the dogs...
(But all the
mammals can
transmit the
rage by bite,
scratch or
licking).
There is an
anti-rabic
processing
center:
it is ' ' an
Association of
fight against
Rage' ' depend
on the National
Center on
Hygiene located
in the buildings
on the CNH at
Nouakchott, and
which, normally,
holds anti-rabic
serums and
vaccines.

AIDS
No test of
tracking
serologic of the
infection by the
HIV is required
at the entry of
the country.
Estimate of the
hiv positives:
0,5 %. this rate
reach almost 1%
in the towns of
transit which
are Rosso, Néma,
and Nouadhibou.
The gift of
blood is free.
The material of
single use
(syringes, etc.)
is correctly
used.
But, the
elementary
concepts of
hygiene are not
known majority
of looking
after.
One finds on the
spot condoms
reliable. But
their sale
remains
confidential.
Notice
Other principal
medical risks:
- the diarrhea
diseases are
also very
widespread.
- There are
other medical
risks with the
less serious
consequences
(see complete
card).

events of
exceptional
appearance
(epidemic...),

General comments
There are
doctors exerting
as private
customers.
That concerns
especially
Mauritanians
doctors.
How much? : they
are 2 having
French diplomas,
but they are
numerous in
addition.
Approximate
proportion
French speaking:
doctors’
majority of the
Mauritanians
doctors.
Numbers of
French doctor:
two.
A simple phone
call with the
consulate will
enable you to
obtain the
co-ordinates of
the doctors
usually
consulted by
French. You will
thus have the
most current
co-ordinates,
rightest and
most precise.
